Ngati Makino Tertiary Grant Application

Purpose

The purpose of the Ngāti Mākino Tertiary Grant is to:

    • Support Ngāti Mākino rangatahi, iwi and their descendants to attain higher education
    • Build relationships with Ngāti Mākino rangatahi and tauira who in the future will contribute to Ngāti Mākino development 

Allocation

    • Grants will be applied in a discretionary manner based on how many applications are received

Eligibility & Criteria

    • Grants are available for the payment of costs incurred while studying
    • Applicants must be registered on the Ngāti Mākino Iwi Register or are a direct descendant of someone who is registered on the Ngāti Mākino Iwi Register
    • Applications open on 6 January 2020 and close 15 May 2020
    • The NMHT may decline applications on any grounds it sees fit
    • Approval of any grant is entirely at the discretion of the Trustees

Applicants must:

    • Provide whakapapa/genealogy if required
    • Be enrolled in a NZQA approved or equivalent course
    • Provide proof of enrolment
    • Be a full time student
    • Be studying at a NZ Tertiary Education Institution
    • Achieve at least a 50% pass rate in all subjects from the previous year
    • Complete a Tertiary Education Grant application form, available from the Ngāti Mākino website or from the Ngāti Mākino office
    • Write an essay about their future goals including how they will help Ngāti Mākino
    • Be willing and make time available to attend Ngāti Mākino wananga/hui
    • Ensure their application is received by the closing date 15 May 2020
